Tidy up with Mrs DM (part 2)

Moving on to the dining table in the live-in kitchen-diner. Mrs DM told me that they hadn't seen the table without anything on it for a long time. I wanted to come up with some ideas to help the family keep that surface clear.

This dining table has 6 drawers, which is a bonus for the sake of keeping the area tidy. Mr and Mrs DM were using these drawers, but weren't making the most of them.

Number 1: Hair iron, child safety items, some leaflets, etc

Number 2: Some scotch tapes, some stickers, a pen, masking tapes, hair wax

Number 3: Some small parts, notebooks, more stickers

Number 4: Mainly Mr DM's items

Number 5: Mainly Mrs DM's makeup items

Number 6: Some dust and a cable

I kept Numbers 1, 4 and 5 as they were because these were the active drawers.

Since there were some miscellaneous stationery items here and there, it was a good idea to allocate one of the drawers for 'Stationery', we ended up using drawers Numbers 2 and 3 for these items.

Number 6 is now empty...

Since Mr and Mrs DM showed their concern about the filing problem, I thought it would be better to create a space for them to put any letters coming through every day (rather than guiding them to put those documents on the surface of the dining table).

It is not the best solution, but I hope they will start tackling the filing before drawer Number 6 is full of letters.

One of the keys to the process was not to change dramatically. They had a good habit of using some of the drawers every day, now they cherish the good habit and just make a little bit of tweak for the better.

The journey continues...
