Every day on the way home from work, I was thinking about what to cook for supper.
The supper is decided, depending on the answers to the questions quickly going through my brain.
- What do I have in the fridge?
- What did we have last night?
- Anything I should be using before going off?
- How's the traffic like?
- How is my energy level today from now till bedtime?
- When was the last food delivery?
- Is my husband coming back as usual today?
- Does she need a bath tonight?
We sometimes ended up making some ham and cheese sandwiches and a tin of tomato soup for supper.
I have determined to spend a good amount of time creating a system for food shopping and supper.
Now I spend 5 minutes food shopping and 1 minute deciding the menu for the night.
This is how I do it, I use Ocado.
1] Choose 5 mains for a week, for me it was Pasta, Casserole, Fish, Meat and Frozen food
2] Think of those mains for 4 weeks.
E.g. Pasta for Tomato sauce, Carbonara, Pesto, bolognese
3] Create 'Shopping lists' on Ocado login
4] 'Add List to Trolley' and delete the items that you already have at home.
5] Rotate the 4-week menus, you don't have to cook Pasta for Monday. You can still have a choice within the 5 mains in the week depending on your 'answers' to the questions.
Ocado Regulars
Every week, I need milk, cheese, ham, eggs, bananas, biscuits, frozen fish and chips and pizza. I arranged the weekly delivery that is all in the 'Trolley' when I shop. Even when I don't do anything, they will be delivered!
Other Shopping Lists
I also created 'Weekend treat' and 'Household' for any extra chocolates, booze, shampoos or toilet rolls.
Every second counts for your family time.
